Bill Ayer
Bill Ayer has been a board member on the AAG Board of Directors since 1999. He has served as chair, president and CEO of Alaska Air Group and as chair of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air since may 2003. He has been CEO of Alaska Airlines since 2002 and served as president of Alaska Airlines from 1997 to 2008. He was also named CEO of Horizon Air in 2010.
Prior to 2003, he served in various marketing, planning and operational capacities with Horizon Air, including senior vice president of operations.
Ayer also serves on the board of directors for Puget Energy, Angel Flight, the Alaska Airlines Foundation, the University of Washington Business School Advisory Board and the Museum of Flight.
Patty Bedient
Patty Bedient was appointed to the AAG Board of Directors in 2004 and serves as the chair of the Audit Committee. She is also a member of the Alaska Airlines Board of Directors. Bedient is executive vice president and CFO for Weyerhaeuser Company. As a certified public accountant since 1978, she has also served as managing partner at Arthur Andersen LLP in Seattle before joining Weyerhaeuser.
She also worked at the firm’s Portland and Boise offices as a partner and as a CPA during her 27-year career with Andersen.
Bedient is on the Weyerhaeuser Foundation board and the advisory board of the University of Washington School of Business. She also serves on the boards of numerous civic organizations, including the Oregon State University Foundation Board of Trustees, the World Forestry Center, the City Club of Portland, St. Mary’s Academy of Portland and the Boise Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Washington Society of CPAs.
Phyllis Campbell
Phyllis Campbell has been a member of the AAG Board of Directors since 2002. She is chair of the board’s Compensation Committee and also serves on the Governance and Nominating committee. She was named chair of the Pacific Northwest Region of JPMorgan Chase & Co. in 2009. Prior to this, she served as president and CEO of The Seattle Foundation from 2003 - 2009, as president and CEO of U.S. Bank of Washington from 1993 to 2001, and has served as chair of the bank’s Community Board. She also is on the boards of Alaska Airlines, Nordstrom and Puget Energy, and is a member of the Seattle University Board of Trustees.
Mark Hamilton
Mark Hamilton has been a member of the AAG Board of Directors since 2001. He serves on the company’s Audit and Safety committees, as well as on the Alaska Airlines Board of Directors. In June of 2010, Hamilton retired as president of the University of Alaska, a position he had held since 1998.
He retired from the U.S. Army in 1998 as a major general following 31 years of active military duty, primarily in the fields of teaching, management and administration. During his military career, he served as chief of staff of the Alaskan Command at Elmendorf Air Force Base and commander of division artillery at Fort Richardson. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and is the recipient of the Army’s highest peacetime award, the Distinguished Service Medal.
Jessie Knight, Jr.
Jessie Knight, Jr. has been a member of the AAG Board of Directors since 2002 and serves on the board’s Safety Committee and Governance and Nominating committee. He is chairman and CEO for the San Diego Gas and Electric Company, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy.
Previously, Mr. Knight served as president and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, and before that he was commissioner of the California Public Utilities Commission, which is responsible for the regulatory oversight of all energy, telecommunications, shipping, railroad and investor-owned utilities in the state. Knight serves on the board of directors for Alaska Airlines, the San Diego Padres Baseball Club, and the Timken Museum of Art in San Diego. He is also a standing member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Marc Langland
Marc Langland has been a member of the AAG Board of Directors since 1991 and serves as chair on the board’s Governance and Nominating committee. He is currently chairman, president and CEO of Northrim Bancorp, Inc. and president and chairman of Northrim Bank.
Prior to joining Northrim, he was chairman and chief executive officer of Key Bank of Alaska from 1987 to 1998, and president from 1985 to 1987. Formerly chairman of the Alaska Permanent Fund Corp., he is on the boards of Horizon Air, Northrim BanCorp., Saltchuk Resources and Usibelli Coal Mine. Langland is a member of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, and a board member and past chairman of Commonwealth North.
Dennis Madsen
Dennis Madsen has been a member of the AAG Board of Directors since 2003 and serves on the Compensation and Audit committees. He is currently the chairman of Pivotlink Software, a business intelligence service company in Bellevue, Washington. Prior to this, was CEO of Seatab Software, and prior to joining Seatab, he was president and CEO of Recreational Equipment, Inc., a retailer and online merchant of outdoor gear and clothing.
He held numerous positions during a 37-year career with REI, including executive vice president and chief operating officer from 1987 to 2000. He also serves on the boards of Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, Pivotlink Software, the Western Washington University Foundation, Western Washington University, Islandwood, Performance Bicylces and the Youth Outdoor Legacy Fund.
Byron Mallott
Byron Mallott has been a member of the AAG Board of Directors since 1982 and serves on the boards Governance and Nominating committee and Safety committee. He is a trustee of the First Alaskans Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of Alaskan native peoples and their communities.
He also owns Mallott Enterprises, a personal investment firm, and is a director of Alaska Air and the Native American Bank of Denver.
From 1995 to 1999, he served as executive director and chief executive officer of the Alaska Permanent Fund, a trust managing proceeds from Alaska’s oil revenues. He was a director of Sealaska Corp. in Juneau from 1972 to 1988, chairman from 1976 to 1983 and chief executive officer from 1982 to 1992.He also serves on the boards of Alaska Airlines, Sealaska Corp. and Alaska Communications Systems Group Inc.
Ken Thompson
Ken Thompson has been a member of the AAG Board of Directors since 1999 and is chairman of the Safety Committee and serves on the Compensation Committee. Currently president and CEO of Pacific Star Energy, he previously served as executive vice president of Arco’s Asia Pacific oil- and gas-operating companies in Alaska, California, Indonesia, China and Singapore from 1998 to 2000.
Prior to that, he was president of Arco Alaska, the parent company’s oil- and gas-producing division based in Anchorage. Thompson also is managing director of Alaska Venture Capital Group, an oil exportation firm.
He is on the board of directors of Coeur d’Alene Mines Corp., Tetra Tech, Horizon Air and several community service organizations.
