Lady Luck smiles on Hackett-Griffin

FA wins grand prize in Visa sweepstakes

March 16,2005

By Marianne Lindsey

St. Patrick’s Day came a few days early for Lorna Hackett-Griffin, flight attendant, who, with the luck of the Irish, took home a check for $10,000 last week thanks to Bank of America and the Signature Simon Visa card sweepstakes.

“Cinnabons for everyone!” Hackett-Griffin exclaimed when she learned that she was the grand prize winner and $10,000 richer. Hackett-Griffin said that she first got involved with promoting the Visa card program because of encouragement from fellow crewmembers. And, she’s sure glad she did, as her name was chosen from among hundreds of employee participants.

From left, Jennifer Irwin, supervisor of partnership marketing, awards Lorna Hackett-Griffin, flight attendant, a check for $10,000 for the Visa sweepstakes, accompanied by Rick Rasmussen, director of marketing programs.

The contest allows employees from Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air to earn cash and be entered into a drawing for encouraging customers, family members and friends to apply for an Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card. Unlike previous sweepstakes, employees were entered into the drawing only once, regardless of the number of applications they processed.

Other winners will be named in the upcoming weeks, just as soon as all are notified. In all, a total of $22,500 in prizes will be given out to Alaska or Horizon employees this quarter.

The contest, which ended in December, ran concurrently with a consumer “Bills Go Bye Bye” sweepstakes in which three lucky winners had their credit card purchases paid in full up to $10,000.

“We had a huge jump in Visa card sign-ups for December, thanks to both the Signature Simon sweepstakes and the consumer promotion,” said Jennifer Irwin, supervisor of partnership marketing, who manages the day-to-day relationship with Bank of America.

The promotion also benefits the Employee Assistance Fund with Bank of America donating $3 for each approved application.
